Ben Levin is a peer of Michael Fullan. There must be something very powerful in the water in Ontario.
This book How to change 5000 Schools: A Practical and Positive Approach for Leading Change at Every Level is one of the few books I have read that really describes why change is so hard in schools.
Levin is also helpful in his description of the complexity of being an instructional leader in an environment where management skills have prevailed . He is realistic about the role of leaders especially with quotable quotes like, "Surpise dominates." How we can relate to that! We may have a plan but often surprises change that plan.
